About us Social ResponsibilityKoi FarmOur StaffPartners

Kodama Koi Farm originated from Japan and has strong connection with the Japan breeders. These connections with Misyohiike Co., Ltd. and Niigata breeders make our company very unique and superior in the US.

Miyoshiike Co., Ltd.

Miyoshiike is one of the most well known Koi dealers in Japan as well as all over the world. Miyoshiike has been dedicated in introducing high quality and healthy Nishikigoi to our customers. As the result, many of the customers enjoyed many top awards at Koi shows including All Japan Nishikigoi Show.

Having Taro Kodama as the Manager of International Service Dept, Miyoshiike started putting her serious efforts to introduce quality Japanese Koi and products abroad about six years ago.

Thanks to the advanced technology, communication with customers was very easy. However, it was not still as easy for them to obtain such beautiful Japanese Nishikigoi due to the high costs of transportation. For example, shipping one box to the US from Japan can easily cost $500.00. Moreover, customers have to pay $100-$200.00 custom broker fee on their ends. So after a hobbyist pay for Koi and all these shipping costs, the total cost of the Koi becomes skyrocket. Miyoshiike realized that this high transportation cost still prevents a lot of Koi lovers from enjoying beautiful Japanese Koi.

Therefore, Miyoshiike founded a distribution center, Japan Koi Online, Inc. in California in order to make beautiful Japanese Nishikigoi more available and affordable.

Once a year vs. 2-3 times every month. 4-10 days in Sep.-Nov. 65 days in Sep. - Nov.

Other Koi companies may go to Niigata only once a year to buy Koi in the harvesting season. They spend about 4-10 days with the guide of their brokers.

Miyoshiike goes 2-3 times EVERY MONTH. Besides, we spend at least 65 days in Niigata during the harvesting months.

Being close to the breeders is very important. Unlike other merchandise, we cannot make a design and ask the manufacturers to keep producing it for the rest of the year. Every Koi is different. We never know when we will come across great Koi. You need to visit them often to make sure that you are always getting the best. Simply not being there is a tremendous disadvantage. I believe we are the only Koi dealer in the US who has these advantages.

Eyes, Experience and Expertise of Miyoshiike
More importantly, who buys Koi is very critical. Eyes, experience and expertise count in this business. At breeders, Koi are not displayed by price. They are all together in a pond. If you do not have the eyes, you would get lower quality Koi for probably the same price as higher quality Koi.

Mamoru Kodama, chairman of Miyoshiike, purchases Koi for J.K.O. Inc. His eyes and expertise has been proved by winning and handling so many top awards at Koi shows in Japan, including Grand champions at All Japan Koi Show 6 times. With all his 40 years of experience in this business, he handpicks quality and best selection of Nishikigoi for Koi lovers in the US.
