Thank you, Christopher K. – A Dream Pond 10 Years in the Making.
Customer Story By: Christopher K.
“I created my pond when I first moved into my home, 9 years ago. It was always a dream of mine to have a koi pond. My pond is L-shaped, 12 ft long, 7 ft wide, and 2 to 3 ft deep, at 1000 gallons. My simple filtration system is pump-fed, 2900 gph into a pre-filter to an Ultima2 6000 gal bead filter which flows into a 50 gal diy moving bed filter that is filled with 2 cubic ft of k1 media and oyster shells.
Currently, I have 4 new tosai: Kohaku, Mukashi Ogon, Hi Utsuri, and a Showa. I also have two other fish that have been in the pond since the beginning, including a 30 inch Yamabuki.
When I first got into the hobby, I knew very little about koi keeping and ended up losing two fish. Because of that, I only had two fish in my pond for seven years. During that time, I researched, watched hundreds of videos and got the appropriate equipment like a microscope, nets, bowls, and test kits for water quality and dissolved oxygen levels.
After almost 10 years of experience keeping Koi. I feel like I’ve acquired the skill and knowledge to raise beautiful authentic Nishikigoi and decided that it’s time to build my dream pond.
Koi, to me, represents stability, resilience, peace, and beauty. Koi has brought so much value into my life and our home. It has been priceless. I plan to always have Koi in my life. It’s really hard to put into words how Koi has helped me in dealing with the stress of this fast paced, traffic filled paradise in Hawaii.
Congratulations Kodama Koi Farm on your 25th Anniversary and continuing your family Legacy!”
