Customer Story By: Douglas L.
“Memories tend to fade, but as I ponder the history of my koi pond, I will do my best to recall details. The idea of a pond started decades ago in my time 50×20 foot backyard. My backyard has always been nothing short of desert, no grass just south Louisiana clay. I really had a dislike for the environment but it’s all I had.
Well, being an opportunist , I decided to dig a hole and make a koi pond. Little did I realize that there was more to this project that meets the eye. I could make up lost memories, but instead I’ll highlight a couple things I do remember. I started my first pond with dimensions of about 2×3 feet, and bought a koi that out grew my tiny pond really quickly.
So my next thought was to expand, I did so a couple times, but never satisfied until I ended up with the present day pond. The present pond could not have materialized until I dismantled a 16 foot above ground pool that the kids no longer used.”
I had a client who agreed to trade my pool for his excavation skills. He dug a hole 4.5 foot at deepest part with a channel 2.5 foot deep that lead to the over flow basket, along with 1.5 foot ledges for plants. The pond you see now is a recreation of the pond that I created 16 years ago. I now have 4 Kodama koi and 7 more on the way. My goal has been to create a Japanese inspired paradise 😁.”
