“My wife knew I always wanted a Koi pond, while I was on a European golf trip she started construction on a small 1200 gallon pond. As soon as I started collecting fish I was transfixed. Within a year I expanded the pond by building a sided by side pond and connecting it with a tunnel. My friend told me about Kodama farms and I stared my journey learning about the history of Nishikigoi.
I have read all of Mr Kodama’s books. I have tried to study his teachings to educate myself on the finer points of raising Koi. My favorite book is “Koi breeders- Creators of living jewels “. Mr Kodama captures for me the passion and reverence these breeders have for Koi. Their work has a moral beauty that is awe inspiring. In his writings Mr Kodama reveals the same passion for Nishikigoi as the world’s great Japanese breeders. I have also been swept up in this passion.
From studying Mr Kodama’s teachings I have tried to expand my pond with each unique breed of Koi. I have made many mistakes and am humbled at times by the difficulty that raising Koi can bring. Still the joy of sitting by my pond mesmerized by the colors and patterns of the Koi stimulate me to keep going and fueling my passion.
I also feel this passion when I am dealing with the staff at Kodama farms. They have shared my joys and sorrows that come with the raising of Koi. I want to congratulate Mr Taro Kodama for his 25 years of bringing Koi to us from Hawaii. There are other places to buy Koi but no where else can you experience the professionalism, expertise and reverence for Nishikigoi than at Kodama farms
