“History : back yard liner pond built in 2024. 8,000 gallons ( 1,100 gallons in filtration designed by Grant Fujita. Two 1/3 hp pumps, bottom drain, 2 mid depth jets, 2 surface skimmers, zakki pre filter,160 watts UV,(4) 250 gal. Biofilters with Japanese mats, Ultima2 media filter. 2 waterfalls and side stream. 2 in pond aerators. 22 koi fish most purchased thru Kodama Koi Farm either by auctions and three buying trips to Japan with Taro. I built the pond ( I the liner,plumbing and filtration) with help with contractors that excavated and built the rock work.

My parents had a pond in Oakland, CA. When they passed, I took a few of their koi to Danville and built my pond. I was inspired by my parent love for a Japanese garden and the Japanese culture.

I decided to learn about the koi hobby. I got a koi keeper certification with KOI International. This hobby was very difficult to learn( understanding water quality and treating diseases).

It is also difficult to learn about color changes. I think that because my pond is in direct sunlight, the color quality diminishes. Breeder have their fish in mud ponds or indoors.

I loved the buying trips with Taro and have met some great friends that share the same passion.

Unfortunately, I have lost some fish over the years.”
