As we celebrate Kodama’s 25th Anniversary, we are honored to recognize customers like you, Luke, whose love for koi runs deep and true. Your story is a beautiful reminder of how koi are more than just fish—they are family, teachers, and quiet companions through life’s many seasons.
From your first pond as newlyweds to the joy your children now experience beside the water, your dedication to koi keeping inspires us. The way you’ve shared that passion with your family—especially with your daughter Brynn—is deeply moving and a testament to the healing, calming spirit koi bring to our lives.
Customer Story By: Luke H.
“My name is Luke H. I have always been infatuated with koi and the way they effortlessly swim and how personal they are. I dug in my first pond at my first house and loved spending time with my new wife around the pond teaching her the different personalities of each fish.
When we moved, we had to leave our fish and it devastated us, but we knew one day we would dig another pond. 3 years later, the people who bought our house told me they were getting rid of our fish. My wife and I knew right then we had to bring our fish babies home lol. So I built an above ground pond for the time being because we have 3 small children. I now get to share my love and, I would say addiction, with my children.
The fish have been so helpful in other ways too. One of my daughters, Brynn, had cerebral palsy and is visually impaired. I sit outside with her and she loves watching the brightly colored fish and listening to the sounds of the water splashing. I plan on digging and building a bigger pond after the kids are a littlIm wanting to have the kids help me build it so then they can have as much passion for koi as i do. Koi teach me to slow down and realize how great life is even in a fast paced, hectic world where we don’t always understand why things happen. The koi are always strong and steadfast and teach us to be calm eve after long work days. Bumblebee and great white are 2 of our longest tenants being with us for about 8 years. We wouldn’t know what we would do without them.
Thank you for allowing me to share our story. We love sharing it with everyone!!
Luke”

My favorite part about your story, Luke, was picturing you and your daughter Brynn sitting by the pond. I have worked with kids with CP and i bet that your daughter loves more than anything her time with you by the pond hearing the sounds of the waterfalls and seeing the colors of the koi.
