At our Hawaii Koi Farm, we’re proud of our heritage and grateful for the opportunity to showcase our koi alongside so many passionate and talented participants. From the tanks to the vendor booths, the energy and excitement were undeniable.

A Gathering of Friends and Koi Lovers

One of the highlights for us was reconnecting with fellow vendors, meeting new hobbyists, and engaging with the koi community face-to-face. At our booth, we had the chance to share knowledge, showcase premium koi, and hear the stories of so many koi keepers who are just as passionate as we are.

The ZNA Carolina Koi Show creates a space where koi appreciation thrives—where ideas are exchanged, friendships are formed, and the beauty of Nishikigoi takes center stage.

We are also deeply thankful to all the koi lovers and participants who brought their passion, energy, and beautiful koi to the event. Your support and enthusiasm help make gatherings like this so special.

Impressive Asagi Koi Winner

It is very unusual, and incredibly impressive, for an Asagi Koi to triumph over all the major Gosanke varieties (Kohaku, Sanke, and Showa), as well as other high-level contenders like Shiro Utsuri and Goshiki, to claim this prestigious title. In the competitive world of koi shows, Gosanke varieties typically dominate the top awards due to their vibrant coloration, strong patterns, and deep traditional appeal in Japanese koi judging standards.

Asagi, being one of the oldest and most traditional koi varieties, is often admired for its classic blue reticulated scalation along the back, soft red (hi) on the cheeks, pectoral fins, and lower body, and its serene, elegant appearance. However, it is rare for Asagi to outperform the visual impact and refinement of a high-quality Kohaku or Showa, which are more frequently bred and entered at top levels.

For this Asagi to take top honors means it must have displayed extraordinary qualities:

• Incredibly clean and consistent reticulation across the body

• Balanced and deep hi in all the right places

• Perfect symmetry and body conformation

• And an overall presence that captivated the judges despite intense competition

This win is not just a matter of aesthetics — it is a testament to the breeder’s skill, the koi’s genetic excellence, and the unmatched effort in raising and grooming this Asagi to peak condition. Victories like this elevate the status of non-Gosanke varieties and prove that excellence can be achieved in any class when the koi is truly world-class.
