What is the “Study Tategoi” program?

There are many ways to study koi. A lot of videos and articles are available on the Internet. You can have knowledge on the koi variety, breeder, how they may develop, etc.; but you can never get the experience online.

In order to fully understand koi, nothing is better than raising them yourself in your own pond.  Only by raising these koi in your pond, can you see the color, quality, and how they will grow and develop their beauty. As a hobbyist, you want to get this experience with minimal investment.

Study Tategoi program offers this experience at an affordable price. At Study Tategoi program, we select the breeder of a group of fine quality tategoi (future koi). By offering them randomly picked, Kodama Koi Farm can keep the cost low for you; and you get to enjoy a high-demand bloodline with confidence in quality.

Study Tategoi Continues!

Have you had the chance to check out part 1 and part 2 of our study tategoi promotion? There are still many different varieties of high quality study tategoi available for you to purchase. Check out part 1 and part 2 see what is left!

Featured Koi Breeders Part 3

It's not easy raising and selecting koi, but someone's gotta do it. Here are the hard-working breeders from Spring Study Tategoi Part 3. Enjoy!

Hosokai Koi Farm

Mr. Masaru Hosokai

Kousui is not necessarily a new variety, but for the last few years, Hosokai Koi Farm has produced such high quality Kousui. they are very well received in the Koi hobby world. Kousui is basically a cross of Kohaku and Shusui. On scaless body, you see only red pattern. It sounds very similar to Doitsu Kohaku, but it is not.

The Hi pattern is very different from that of Kohaku. If you remember Shusui, they tends to have Hi pattern on its side. Just like that, Kousui develops Hi from the sides and decorates its body. Few breeders breeds Kousui.

As a matter of fact, I do not know anyone but Mr. Hosokai who breeds this variety So the supply is extremely limitd. We are very happy to offer 40 high qulity Kousui to our customers.

His Hirenaga butterfly are not your ordinary Hirenaga Butterfly. They are direct descendant of the Royal family of Hirenaga butterfly.

Hirenaga breeding traces back to Japan’s emperor. When the retired emperor of Japan, Akihito, was the prince in 1962, he visited Indonesia and saw longfin carp.

He thought it would be interesting to cross the Indonesian longfin carp with Japanese koi. He suggested this idea to Saitama Prefecture’s Inland Water Fisheries Experiment Station. The station succeeded to develop five Hirenaga varieties.

Mr. Kurihara obtained the parent Koi from the station and bred the Hirenaga butterfly Koi. Kodama Koi Farm is the only place you can get the Royal family Hirenaga butterfly.

Aragoke is such a unique varieties. It is basically a Doitsu variety, but uniquly with such large scales. As Ikarashi Koi Farm developed such a unique variety some years ago, a few started the challenge.

Breeding Aragoke is not as easy as it looks. This is why we do not see many Aragoke available for sale yet. It was an accident that I found him breeding Aragoke last fall, but his Aragoke was breathtaking.

When I saw his Aragoke, I knew I have to get some for our customers. Successfully, I obtained his Aragoke, but there are only 50 available. So please do not wait.
